He also helped open Pinellas Safe Harbor, an emergency/ homeless shelter and diversion program next to the county jail. In 2019, the National Sheriffs' Association named Gualtieri the recipient of the Ferris E. In March 2018, House Speaker Richard Corcoran appointed Gualtieri to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission, and Governor Scott named him Chairman.
